The sweet spot

This is one of Tokyo's most heavily booked attractions, and the practical trap is the ticket rather than the queue. Everything is sold online in advance, nothing at the door, and the date and time on a booked ticket cannot be changed afterwards. Book before you fix the rest of that day, and take an early slot — three to four hours is the honest minimum, and a late entry forces you to rush the second half.

  1. The Great Hallthe Hogwarts dining hall, the first of the built environments on the walk-through route
  2. Diagon Alleythe shopfront street from the films, walked end to end rather than viewed from behind a barrier
  3. The Forbidden Forest and the Hogwarts Expresstwo of the signature sets on the route, shown alongside props, costumes and creature-effects displays
  4. Interactive momentsbroomstick flying and Quidditch cheering, staged with the same techniques used in production
  5. Butterbeer Bar and the shopbilled as the world's largest of each, plus dining in a room inspired by the Great Hall and Tokyo-exclusive merchandise

How to actually get there

  1. Book the ticket online before you leave — none are sold on site, and the slot cannot be changed.
  2. Tokyo Station → Ikebukuro Station (Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, ~17 min).
  3. Ikebukuro Station → Toshimaen Station (Seibu Ikebukuro Line, ~15 min), then ~2 min on foot.
Metro to Ikebukuro, then the Seibu Ikebukuro Line
Tokyo Station →(Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, ~17 min)→ Ikebukuro Station →(Seibu Ikebukuro Line, ~15 min)→ Toshimaen Station. The entrance is about a two-minute walk from the station. Total roughly 40 minutes, with frequent trains on both legs. Seibu rebuilt this station as part of the project, so the platform itself is themed — worth a minute before you head out of the gates.
Same two lines in reverse
Toshimaen Station → Ikebukuro (Seibu Ikebukuro Line, ~15 min) → central Tokyo on the Marunouchi or JR Yamanote lines. Services run frequently into the late evening. The shop by the exit takes longer than people expect, so allow for it if you are heading somewhere with a fixed time.

About the place

The Studio Tour stands on the site of the former Toshimaen, the amusement park that occupied this corner of Nerima for decades. It opened on 16 June 2023 as the first Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Asia and the largest indoor Harry Potter attraction in the world. What is inside is not rides: it is the production material of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films — sets, props, costumes and creature effects kept from the shoots rather than replicas built for display — arranged as a route you walk at your own pace. Seibu rebuilt the neighbouring station to match, giving Toshimaen a platform modelled on London's King's Cross, so the change of world begins before you reach the gate.

How to enjoy it

Take the earliest slot you can get and plan for three to four hours inside, longer if you are eating. Photography is what makes people run over time, so decide early whether you are shooting or looking — you rarely do both well here. Treat the station as part of the visit and walk the platform rather than heading straight out. Nerima is far enough from the centre that this works best as the day's single fixture rather than something squeezed between other plans.

Background & history

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter opened on 16 June 2023 on the ground of the former Toshimaen amusement park in Nerima, west Tokyo. It is the first Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Asia and the largest indoor Harry Potter attraction in the world. The material on show comes from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts productions — sets built for the camera, props, costumes and creature effects — rather than from reproductions made for exhibition. Seibu Railway rebuilt the adjacent station as part of the project, adding Harry Potter theming and a platform inspired by King's Cross in London.

Before you go

Cash
Tickets must be bought online in advance — none are sold at the venue, and the date and time on a booked ticket cannot be changed. Cards are accepted inside for food and the shop. Trains take IC cards (Suica / PASMO).
Before you go
Allow three to four hours for the tour itself, more if you intend to eat. Booking an earlier entry slot is what gives you room to go at your own pace rather than being pushed along.
Another way
From Shinjuku, the Toei Oedo Line runs direct to Toshimaen in about 20 minutes — the simpler route if you are staying on the west side of the city.
After you get off
From Toshimaen Station it is a signed walk of about two minutes to the entrance plaza.
