Shibuya, Tokyo
Tokyo, Forest to Rooftop
Four places, south through the west of Tokyo, the quiet end first: a planted forest soon after it opens, the lawns beside it, an avenue of trees walked downhill, and an open rooftop above it all.

Meiji Jingu
A famous shrine that is genuinely calm at dawn if you use the quiet north gate near Yoyogi.
What to look for
- North torii gate (Kita-sando entrance) — the quiet entrance about a 5-minute walk from Kita-sando Station and near Yoyogi Station
- Gravel forest path — the roughly 10-minute walk through 100,000 donated trees to reach the main shrine buildings
- The great torii — the largest wooden myojin-style torii in Japan, cut from a Japanese cypress said to be around 1,500 years old

Yoyogi Park
A huge free park beside Harajuku — picnic lawns on weekdays, a citywide open-air scene every Sunday.
What to look for
- The central lawn — the park's main open space, ringed by cherry trees and busy with picnics on fine weekends
- The ginkgo avenue — a long straight path that turns solid yellow in late November
- The bird sanctuary — Japan's first urban bird sanctuary, a quiet wooded corner with observation points
- 03
Tokyo · Omotesando · From Tokyo Stn · ~25 min
Omotesando
Tokyo's flagship boutique avenue is a shrine approach — zelkova trees set the scale, and even Tadao Ando's building was held to three storeys to stay under them.
What to look for
- The zelkova canopy — the trees that define the avenue from the shrine end down to Aoyama-dori; the reason the street feels low-rise in a city that is not
- Omotesando Hills — Tadao Ando's complex, deliberately only three storeys above ground and spiralling downward inside, with the rebuilt Dojunkan wing at its east end
- The flagship architecture run — a concentrated stretch of brand buildings by internationally known architects — the street reads as an outdoor gallery of facades

SHIBUYA SKY
The city's best straight-down view of the Scramble Crossing — book a timed ticket online before you go.
What to look for
- SKY EDGE (open-air rooftop) — the uncovered top deck at approximately 229 m, with a transparent floor section near the edge looking straight down to the street
- Shibuya Scramble Crossing from above — the bird's-eye view onto one of the world's most visited pedestrian crossings, showing the full scale of the crossing and the surrounding street grid
- SKY STAGE (indoor zone) — the enclosed lower level with seating areas, interactive exhibits, and a shop, connecting to the open-air deck
